Understand yourself. Understand your child.
Become the parent you want to be.
Parenting an autistic child can ask more of you than most people realize.
There are difficult mornings. Meltdowns. Shutdowns. Sensory challenges. School messages. Unexpected changes. Advocacy. Appointments. Relationship strain. Exhaustion.
And the quiet pressure of trying to keep showing up when your own emotional, mental, and physical resources are running low.
Sometimes the same situation that felt manageable yesterday feels completely overwhelming today.
Why?
Because the situation isn’t the only thing shaping your response.
You are part of the equation.
A Different Way to Think About Resilient Parenting
The Parent Resilience Method™ is a practical, compassionate framework for parents raising autistic children who want to understand what happens inside themselves—and use that understanding to respond differently when parenting becomes difficult.
Created from professional experience and Anders Joelsson’s lived experience as a father of an autistic son, the method begins with understanding you.
It explores how your Internal State™, Capacity™, nervous system, thoughts, emotions, meaning, and responses** interact—and how greater awareness can help you reduce overwhelm and stress, respond with greater intention, and create more space for calm, connection, and choice with your child.
The goal isn’t to become a perfect parent.
It’s to become more aware, more intentional, more compassionate, and more able to recover, repair, and begin again.
As the book explains:
You cannot always choose what your family will face.
You can learn to understand the parent who is facing it.

Inside the Book, You’ll Discover How To:
Understand why the same parenting situation can feel completely different from one day to the next.
Recognize your Internal State™* and what you are already carrying into a parenting moment.
Understand and protect your Capacity™ before you reach your limit.
Recognize Survival Mode™ and understand how it can affect your thinking and responses.
Examine the thoughts and stories your mind creates during stressful moments.
Explore the Meaning™ you give to difficult experiences and how that meaning influences what happens next.
Create more space between an automatic reaction and an Intentional Response™.
Use Recovery™ to restore what you’ve already given instead of waiting until you’re completely depleted.
Understand how changes within you can create a Ripple Effect™ throughout your relationships and family environment.
Continue Becoming™ the parent you want to be through small, intentional choices in everyday family life.
The book is built around 10 Core Frameworks™, with each one building on the last.
The purpose isn’t to give you more information to memorize.
It’s to help you recognize what is happening inside you, understand why you respond the way you do, and begin creating different choices in the moments that matter.

This Book Is For You If You’ve Ever Thought:
“Why did I react like that?”

“What was I already carrying before this happened?”
“How can I respond differently next time?”
“How do I recover before I have nothing left?”
“What kind of parent do I want to become?”
If you’ve ever asked yourself questions like these, you’re not alone.
- You don’t need to have everything figured out.
- You don’t need to stop struggling.
- You don’t need to become a perfect parent.
- You can notice. Understand. Recover. Repair. Begin again.
Because resilience isn’t something you achieve once.
It’s someone you continue becoming.

About the Authors
The Parent Resilience Method™ was created from two complementary perspectives: professional experience and lived experience.
Anders Joelsson combines professional knowledge with the lived reality of raising an autistic son. He is a Certified Cognitive Behavioral Therapist (CBT) and Certified Resilience Coach. He works professionally with people with neurodevelopmental conditions, parents, and clients experiencing stress, anxiety, worry, and emotional strain connected to family life and parenting.
When Anders’s son was diagnosed with autism at school age, his family’s life changed in ways he could never have imagined. Over the years that followed, he experienced the everyday realities of autism parenting firsthand—the uncertainty, advocacy, constant decision-making, interrupted routines, emotional highs and lows, and the quiet victories that often go unnoticed by others.
That experience became an important part of his professional commitment to supporting people and families facing similar challenges.
Glenn Michael has worked alongside parents for more than fifteen years, supporting them through some of the most demanding seasons of family life. Through his coaching and his work with Autism Parents United, he has listened to hundreds of parents describe the emotional realities of raising an autistic child.
Together, their professional experience, coaching and CBT-based perspectives, work with parents and people with neurodevelopmental conditions, and lived experience of autism parenting form the foundation of The Parent Resilience Method™.

At the Heart of the Method Is One Simple Belief
Parents don’t need another book telling them to try harder or become perfect.
They need to understand themselves.
When parents understand what is happening inside them, they create more space to notice, understand, and respond to what is happening around their child.
That can mean less reacting from overwhelm.
More intentional responses.
More opportunity for calm.
And more space for connection.
Resilient parenting doesn’t begin by changing your child.
It begins by understanding yourself.
